Outsourced sales development

When a partner's SDRs should prospect for you, what it costs next to an in-house hire, and how to judge the company you hire.

The short answer

When does outsourcing sales development make sense?

Outsourced sales development means a partner's SDRs research your market, make the calls and book qualified meetings for your sales team, on a program with agreed targets and reporting. It fits when you need pipeline sooner than you can hire and ramp reps, or when the budget for one in-house hire buys less coverage than a managed team.

It fits less well when the first conversation needs deep product expertise only your own people have, or when you already run a working SDR team that just needs better lists. Price both sides: one in-house SDR costs about $124K in year one at middle-metro pay (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2025, plus our calculator's assumptions), before ramp or turnover.
